Description
Spanning roughly nine acres, the Santa Monica Pier features Pacific Park, a compact amusement park perched directly above the surf. The park includes a solar-powered Ferris wheel, roller coaster, arcade, and a variety of food stands. Anchoring the pier’s cultural legacy is the Looff Hippodrome, a Spanish Revival–style landmark built in 1916. Originally constructed to house a hand-carved carousel, which is still in operation today, the building remains a centerpiece of the pier’s architectural charm and historical significance. The pier also offers public plazas, vendor stalls, fishing zones, and access to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium located beneath the deck.
